The FGCU men’s golf team concluded the Innisbrook Invitational with a 15th overall finish and a total score of 908 following a score of 307 in the final round on Tuesday.
The team was lead by junior J.T. Barker and senior Doug Smith as they both finished the two-day event with a score of 223 and tied for 48th place individually.
Barker’s score of 74 on Tuesday was the lowest for the Eagles in the final round, while Smith shot a 77 to close out the event. Smith posted the lowest individual score for the Eagles all weekend in the first round on Monday with a 69.
Like Smith, junior Tyler Carson shot a 77 in the final round on Tuesday followed by sophomore Luke Farmer who shot a 79, and senior Brent Fredericksen rounded out the team with a final-round score of 82.
“We’ll take away the positives we made as a team and as individuals from this tournament and we look forward to our next opportunity to compete,” said head coach Andrew Danna.
The Eagles placed 15th in the event, finishing six points behind William & Mary and Temple who each tied for 13th with a team score of 902. James Madison University finished first in the event with a final team score of 844.
The FGCU men’s golf team will close out their fall campaign by hosting the Homewood Suites FGCU Classic in Estero starting on Sunday, Nov. 3 at the Old Corkscrew Golf Club.
