A Rave Alert was distributed among FGCU students, faculty and families Wednesday at 11:15 a.m..
“Police activity in the area of Gulf Coast Town Center due to shots fired. Stay clear of the area,” read the alert.
According to NBC2, the Lee County Sheriff’s office confirmed shots fired near a construction site. No shoppers were harmed and it appears it was an isolated incident between two unknown individuals who have since fled the scene.
FGCU issued an emergency notification due to the proximity to West Lake Village. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is no longer considering this an active scene.
Deputies are still searching for suspects involved according to WGCU.
There was never a threat to main campus.
