FGCU’s chapter of Global Medical Brigades revealed summer 2024 plans to provide medical aid in Guatemala. Student volunteers will be assisting medical professionals with services in underprivileged communities.
Members of Global Medical Brigades will provide consultations and triage to patients with a goal of determining what services are needed. Patients will then be directed to pharmaceutical, dental and optometry services. The organization provides Charla, educational courses on reproductive health, domestic abuse awareness and aid, hygiene and more.
Students will also be able to partake in a smaller-scale brigade in Immokalee. The RSO will be holding health screenings and giving out medical supplies to community members in need.
Global Medical Brigades partners with Blankets and Blessings and Panira Health Clinic in events that provide screenings, free school physicals and information on accessible local healthcare services.
Meetings will be held every other Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Merwin 214, with the next one on Sept. 26.
Students interested in involvement can join on Eagle Link. For any questions or concerns, students can email [email protected] or follow @fgcu_GMB on Instagram.
