Flooding Resulting Hurricane Helene Batter Fort Myers Beach and Surrounding Areas
As the outer bands of Hurricane Helene made landfall last Thursday in Southwest Florida, many residents prepared for the worst.
With the lasting effects of Hurricane Ian from two years ago still visible in many parts of Fort Myers Beach, residents were ordered to evacuate ahead of the storm.
Large amounts of sand from the gulf have been left on the streets and properties of Fort Myers Beach when flood waters receded on Friday.
According to the News-Press, cleanup efforts from residents and officials are underway.

Amtrak Will Offer Temporary Route From Florida to Illinois
Amtrak will start offering a new two-day route from Chicago to Miami. The new route, called the Floridian Line, will begin operations on Nov. 10 this year with tickets starting at $113 one way. The route will make many stops in major cities along the Eastern seaboard.
The trains will use Amtrak’s double-decker superliner cars which have been dwindling in supply.
According to Amtrak, the new route will help ease pressure on their Northeast Corridor during renovations, including tunnel and track restoration.

After being kidnapped in 1951, California man has been reunited with his family
Thanks to modern forensic abilities and persistence from his family, Luis Armando Albino has finally been brought back to his family, 73 years after being kidnapped.
Luis Armando Albino was abducted from a California park when he was just 6 years old.
After taking a DNA test, Albino’s niece Alida Alequin noticed she had a missing uncle. This uncle turned out to be Albino.
Albino had been living on the East Coast and served as a firefighter and fighting in Vietnam. He grew up assuming he was the “son of another couple” according to NPR.
The case is still being investigated by the Oakland Police Department.
