Wyoming Sells Land to Federal Government for $100 Million
The state of Wyoming decided against selling the one-square-mile parcel of land to private developers in favor of the federal government. This decision gives the land which is located in the Grand Teton National Park the best chance for future protection.
The fate of the land has long been in contention with the private developers offering a much higher dollar amount than the government according to the Associated Press.
Before the sale, the State would lease the land to farmers to graze, however, the state soon found they could get much more money from the land if they sold it all together.
Federal funds will pay $62 million of the purchase which was the appraised value of the land and private contributions will fund the remaining balance.
