The Student Government Association (SGA) has brought on many new members in light of the fall semester.
Current SGA President Ryan Kaczynski is a 20-year-old junior accounting major. He has been involved with SGA since his first year at FGCU.
Kaczynski has two main goals for the campus: overall student involvement and student success. Student government strives for the success of all students and is committed to providing the environment to do so. With a young team, the oldest member is junior Chief of Staff Alyssa Popovitz, and they are ready to get involved.
When hiring new members for SGA, the process was described as lengthy, with all the Human Resources Department checks and kinds of advising needed.
“It’s slow to get people in, but our recruitment has gone very well,” Kaczynski said.
New members of SGA have adapted well to their positions. Including members− Josh Lopez, Communications and Marketing; Alexandra Amunategui, director of sustainability; Stevenson Destrat, director of leadership development; Mirsa Fortune, director of student opportunity; and Terrance Scott, director of student experiences− all of whom represent the Executive branch.
“You can’t teach passion, and many of the new people involved in student government are passionate,” Kaczynski said. “So, there was a bit of a learning curve on how student government works, but they’ve made the positions their own. They’re doing a lot of good work.”
Notably, the cabinet is eager to enhance its student body, with several ideas in store for the new semester to involve more students in sports and campus activities. SGA is excited to be a part of the college experience at FGCU every step of the way, advocating for you, hearing you and leading you.
“Come to student government if you need help,” Kaczynski said.
