Florida’s Expanded ‘Move Over’ Law Concludes First Full Year
Florida’s ‘Move Over’ law used only to require drivers to move one lane over for emergency vehicles on the side of the road, but at the beginning of 2024, it was broadened to require drivers to move over for any vehicle on the side of the road.
According to WFTV 9, many drivers are being caught out by the expanded law. Highway Patrol says despite the law, many drivers are still not moving over for stranded civilian vehicles or emergency vehicles.
Those ticketed under the law, face a fine of $60-$158. If a driver is unable to move over, they must slow down to 20 miles per hour under the speed limit.
