Earlier this year, Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested on multiple charges including multiple sex crimes. Though the idea of something being off about Combs has long brewed in the public mind.
Many celebrities have ominously referenced “Diddy parties” however up till now, the general public could only imagine what they meant.
As more and more allegations came out before his arrest, Combs was given the nickname “The Diddler” by many on social media. The nickname is obviously in reference to the nature of his crimes, however, like many high-profile criminals who are given nicknames, it minimizes the gravity of their crimes.
Over 100 people, both men and women, have come out with accusations of Combs. The pain– physically and emotionally– these people have gone through is very real. So when Combs is called “The Diddler” and people make crazy baseless conspiracy theories of other celebrities having sex with Combs, it takes the focus off the victims.
This isn’t a new phenomenon either, many serial killers have earned nicknames and celebrity status. These nicknames aren’t any different and have the same effects on their victims as it has had on Combs’. How many victims of Richard ‘The Night Stalker’ Ramirez do you know the name of? Point made.
The victims of Combs’ crimes should be the focus of the social media presence of this case, not memes of ‘The Diddler’ or the baby oil found in his home raids. People should be talking about Tony Buzbee, the Texas attorney representing over 100 victims of Combs. People should be talking about Cassie Ventura, a young musician Combs signed to a very aggressive seven-album contract. Not only this but Combs dated her when she was 19 and he was 37.
Combs is an evil man whose actions and ego have gone unchecked for far too long. The previous crimes he’s been accused and acquitted of have only fanned the flames of his ego, however, it seems in this case, the mountain of evidence may be too steep for Combs and his defense team to climb.
