In addition to some physical changes this year, FGCU is going to be getting some internal ones. Thanks to the Business Technology Services, EagleMail and Microsoft Office will be reaching students in a new and highly improved way.
Students will no longer have to face long lines at the campus bookstore to get a discounted, dated copy of Microsoft Office any longer. Coming July 15, students will be able to download and use Microsoft’s latest version of Office — Office 365.
This new package will include all of the familiar programs that students and instructors alike have come to know and love. All enrolled students will have access to this download via their EagleMail, which will grant them the ability to install it five separate times.
But that isn’t what’s so great about the new version of Office. Office 365 is subscription based, but it allows users to have one account connected to multiple devices. Not only can it be installed on both PC and Mac computers, but programs like Word, Excel and One Note can also be downloaded and used on Android and iOS devices.
For students who are interested in owning a physical copy of the program or Windows OS, a trip to the bookstore will be necessary. Or, for those just interested in the OS, Windows 10 is coming later this month – make sure to reserve a free download before launch on July 29.
Additionally, BTS is changing the name of the student email service, “EagleMail .” Instead of the name EagleMail, the website will now be known as the FGCU Email website. A sample of the new login page has been provided and will be up later this week on July 17.
