In light of the holiday, the FGCU women’s soccer team practiced in its Halloween costumes this morning.
After the initial warmup, the team split off for a game of kickball. It was comical, not only in the kicking ability shown, but also given the Eagles’ costumes, which had many wobbling and stumbling from base to base. The women always go all out — whether it is on the field or for Halloween.
Coach Jim Blackenship, pausing to adjust his taped-up nerd glasses and suspenders, suggested that the festivities had to do with the upcoming Atlantic Sun Championship.
“They’re under a lot of stress right now,” Blackenship said. “This is a way for them to have fun and relieve some of that stress.”
Blackenship says he intends to keep the Halloween tradition going, as many sports on campus do, so long as the holiday falls on a weekend.
The Eagles take on the Stetson Hatters in the A-Sun Championship Semifinals 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6 at the FGCU Soccer Complex.
