This past Sunday, the Denver Broncos lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, 29-13. However, for the Broncos, this was more than a loss on the stats sheet.
This weekend Broncos’ Quarterback Peyton Manning was injured with a sore right foot, preventing him from stepping into his throws properly. Manning also had throbbing ribs and an aching right shoulder, which is never good for a right-armed quarterback.  These injuries and limited play ability resulted in Manning getting benched for the first time in his entire career, late in the third quarter.
After a 4-yard pass to Broncos’ running back Ronnie Hillman, Manning broke the record for most passing yards in NFL history, passing Brett Favre, who previously held the record.
Immediately after this pass was completed, the game was paused, and Joe Horrigan, from the Pro Football Hall of Fame, came out to secure the ball as a memento.
The Chiefs were able to prevent Manning from breaking another record, most career wins.
Before getting benched Manning’s stats were looking nothing like what is normally expected of the star quarterback. In the game he had 35 yards on five-of-20 passing, zero touchdowns, four interceptions and two sacks.
This is the second week straight the Broncos have lost. In the game against the Chiefs, the Broncos were missing defensive end DeMarcus Ware, cornerback Aqib Talib, and wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders was hurting throughout the span of the game.
Along with the missing and the injured, the Broncos lost their safety, T.J. Ward, after he was ejected for punching Chiefs’ wide receiver Jeremy Maclin. Ward’s emotions ran high after Maclin took out Ward on his 80-yard touchdown catch and run, following Eric Berry’s interception, who is the Chiefs’ safety.
“To be honest with you, I was protecting him because I was worried about him,” Broncos’ coach Gary Kubiak said in a post game interview with ESPN.
The Broncos’ next game is against the 4-5 Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in Illinois at 1:00 p.m.  Nov. 22 . Manning remains hopeful to practice this week and play in Sunday’s game.
