CrossFit Estero is hosting its second annual WOD For Hunger event in order to raise money for Harry Chapin Food Bank Saturday Dec. 19.
“We have gone out to local businesses to see if they would donate food for this event,” Allyson Schuchert, the office manager of CrossFit Estero said. “We have also marketed via social media and planning of the workout. Time and team set up also come into play.”
During last year’s event, more than $500 was raised for Harry Chapin Food Bank and over 800 pounds of canned goods for people in need. This year, the staff at CrossFit Estero is hoping to double its numbers at the event.
During the 2014-15 fiscal year, the Harry Chapin Food Bank distributed 18.74 million pounds of food as well as provide 15.3 million meals to hungry individuals across the area.
“Harry Chapin is a great charity,” Schuchert said. “We are able to help out so many people and families, which is awesome, especially at this time of year.”
This “workout of the day” event will consist of one workout that all registered teams will complete. Teams must be made up of four individuals that consist of two men and two women.
Registration is $20 per athlete or $20 worth of canned goods.
Check in starts at 8:15 a.m., and the event begins at 9 a.m.

“We are hoping everyone just has a great time,” Schuchert said. “It’s supposed to be a fun event and no stress. Teams just do as best as they can.”
