The votes are in and it is time to see which beloved celebrities are taking home a People’s Choice Award ranging from Favorite Movie to Favorite Social Media Star.
The 42nd annual ceremony was held on Jan. 6 and hosted by Jane Lynch. Among the nominated, People’s Choice Award newcomer, The Weeknd, had an impressive count of five nominations including Favorite Album and Favorite Male Artist. Triple threat Dwayne Johnson received recognition from three different genres. He had nominations for film, TV and celebrity social media. Meanwhile, “Grey’s Anatomy” earned six nominations despite the lost of McDreamy, they seemed to have gained more fans. As for top nominated movie, “Avengers: Age of Ultron” had a total of seven nods.
The show included an impressive performance from Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello, who sang their latest single, “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” which has been climbing the charts. The winner of The Voice, Jordan Smith performed a gorgeous rendition of  “You Are So Beautiful.”
Later on in the show, Melissa McCarthy took center stage to present Ellen DeGeneres the Favorite Humanitarian Award. During McCarthy’s speech she played a touching video full of clips from DeGeneres’ TV show. The award was a way to honor DeGeneres for all the outstanding work she has done for charities and families in need.
During “The Talk’s” acceptance speech for Favorite Daytime TV Hosting Team, a attendee in the audience rushed the stage and took the microphone from host Sara Gilbert to promote rapper Kevin Gates new album, “Islah.” The shows other hosts, Sharon Osborne and Sheryl Underwood try to handle the situation by kicking the Kanye West wannabe off the stage.
People’s Choice Awards is supposed to be a fun and entertaining show that gives fans a say on who they think deserves the award in their category. This year’s show was conducted in a very sloppy manner. For example, when giving Matt Bellassai his award for Favorite Social Media Star, they filmed the wrong person in the audience and Bellassai can be seen in the corner of the screen receiving his award.
