Native American Heritage Month

Sabrina Salovitz, Editor-in-Chief

“Fort Myers has a thriving community of local natives including Miccosukee and Seminole and independent Miccosukee Seminole people who are doing great things. Aside from the local natives are also indigenous people from other indigenous nations living in the area.”

“They are reaching out to their nonnative friends to build coalitions around the arts, the environment, and also just trying to make friends with other people in the community so that we can all support each other on issues of common concern.”

“There’s a lot to learn about indigenous culture. There are friendships to be made. And there’s also good work that we can all do together, especially when it comes to the environment.”

“There’s incredible diversity in the Native American community. And that as a matter of reconciliation, we invite folks to get to know us better.”
