If it was possible to save over $80 while helping fund a good cause by making one simple decision, would you choose to do so? By purchasing a $10 ticket to Calusa Nature Center’s 29th Annual Haunted Walk, instead of a $91.99 Halloween Horror Nights ticket, you can do just that. There’s no need to go to Halloween Horror Nights to get your zombie fix because this year’s Haunted Walk features swamp zombies.
Once nightfall hits, suspense falls over the Calusa Center’s cricketing wooden boardwalk. There is one way in and one way out, so you’re sure to get a thrill. The boardwalk stretches over a mile and a half and features three tunnels and a maze.
“It’s so beautiful at night and you’re anticipating getting scared,” said Marry Rawl, the Calusa Nature Center director. “That’s sometimes the scariest part!”
The Haunted Walk will run October 18 through the 20 and the 24 through the 31. Ticket sales will begin at 7:00 p.m. and the walk will start at 7:30 p.m. and runs till 9:30 p.m.
Wanting an extra fear factor? For an additional $1, you can purchase a ticket to Calusa’s spooky laser light show held every 20 minutes in the planetarium.
Aside from the blood and gore that will draw pedestrians to this local attraction, the added benefit is the supporting cause. Calusa Nature Center is a private, not for profit, organization. All the money raised from the Hunted Walk will go directly to help sustain the Calusa Nature Center and the well being of it’s wildlife.
If the thought helping the Calusa Nature Center pulls at your heartstrings, or if your looking to rack up service learning hours, then volunteering might be an option to look into. “We would love to have more student volunteers,” said Rawl. “Plus, we’ll train and feed you when you get here.” The center offers a broad variety of volunteer opportunities for the Haunted Walk, such as a “scarer,” parking services, food and water sales, ticket sales, as well as helping out with the laser light show.
Log onto CalusaNature. org and click on “Come Volunteer!” Then follow the simple instructions to submit your volunteer application and request.
