“The Hateful Eight” is Tarantino’s eighth film, which he has both written and directed. It is a western about eight strangers who seek refuge from a blizzard in a stagecoach stopover. The eight characters hold titles that include a bounty hunter who is played by Tarantino regular Samuel L. Jackson, a hangman portrayed by Kurt Russell and a confederate played by veteran actor Bruce Dern. Other characters involved are a sheriff, a Mexican, a little man, a cow-puncher and a prisoner.
When these eight strangers come into contact, in “The Hateful Eight,” it leads down a path of treachery, revenge and a whole lot of action and violence that we have been accustomed to seeing in a Tarantino film. The movie’s expectations are high because most of the critics have been giving the film very positive reviews. To go along with the critical praise it has received, it has also been nominated for three Golden Globe Awards including one for Best Screenplay.
Die-hard Tarantino fans and average movie-goers alike will be flocking to the theatres to see this much anticipated film, which is now available in theaters.
“The Revenant” is an epic western starring two of the biggest actors in Hollywood with Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy, and it is being directed by perhaps the hottest director in the film industry today, Alejandro G. Iñárritu, who is fresh off making his Academy Award winning film “Birdman.” “The Revenant” is based on real events about a frontiersman, Hugh Glass, who is attacked by a bear and then left behind by his fellow frontiersman to die. Glass survives the attack and is set on a revenge path that takes on many twists and turns that is sure to be a captivating story.
DiCaprio, who plays the character Glass, said in an interview with Men’s Journal that this was the most difficult movie he has ever worked on. The cast and crew had to deal with very harsh and cold conditions for most of the filming. DiCaprio is known for his extreme commitment and preparation when he takes on a role. For “The Revenant,” he slept with dead animal carcasses and ate bison body parts to get into character.
The movie has had very positive reviews from the critics and is also nominated for four Golden Globes, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor. “The Revenant” will receive a wide release on Jan. 8.
