The FGCU men’s and women’s cross country programs were named a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association 2015 Division I All-Academic Team.
“Both teams work incredibly hard in the classroom and are very deserving of this award,” FGCU coach Cassandra Goodson said. “Brian Boveington and Coach (Argeo) Cruz deserve special recognition for monitoring and assisting the cross country student-athletes with their academic endeavors. We’re very proud of our program.”
To earn All-Academic Team recognition, a program must carry at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. The FGCU men earned a 3.51 GPA and were one of five A-Sun teams on the list, joined by Jacksonville (3.30), Lipscomb (3.67), NJIT (3.26) and USC Upstate (3.3).
On the women’s side, FGCU carried a 3.38 GPA and are one of four conference teams to earn the recognition along with Lipscomb (3.49), NJIT (3.23) and USC Upstate (3.28). The recognition marks the second straight for both FGCU programs.
On the course, the Eagles turned in a pair of program-best seasons, as both the men and the women finished third at the A-Sun Conference Championship.
At the NCAA South Regional Championships, the women, who earned and maintained the program’s first regional ranking for much of the season, finished in a program-best 13th place while the men finished in 18th place.
