There are so many ways to give good gifts this holiday season and they don’t need to break the bank. Here are just some of the tips and tricks I’ve picked up over the years.
- Don’t buy all your gifts at once
One of the greatest things I’ve done is buy my Christmas gifts throughout the year instead of rushing to get them all at once. I have a large immediate family, so buying gifts for the holidays can always be a bit tough. Now I’m not saying you need to be like me and start buying gifts in January, but maybe start buying gifts a couple of weeks or a month before and spread out how many you buy. Maybe get gifts for two people one week and three the next. Take your time shopping and don’t spend your whole paycheck on gifts.
- Buy gifts early
This one goes hand and hand with the last one. Try your best to shop sooner rather than later. The closer you get to Christmas the busier the stores will be and the higher the prices will be on certain items. Those who shop on Christmas Eve may be caught in crowds of others who do the same thing. Buying your gifts sooner can make things easier for you and your bank.
- Take advantage of sales and discounts
One of the greatest ways to go shopping for the holidays is by utilizing the many sales and deals associated with Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Most stores will have huge discounts on items that make the perfect Christmas gifts. There will also be sets of things available such as perfumes and socks. Taking advantage of these deals will help lessen the load of not knowing what to buy.
- Buy what the person would want rather than what you would want
Sometimes we tend to think about what we like when buying gifts. Try to do your best to think about what the receiver would want. If they like anime, get them something related to anime. I know nothing about anime, but I know the main anime my brother watches and I know he collects Funko pops, so I got him a Funko pop from his favorite anime this year. If the person likes an animal or a color, use it to your advantage. It also helps to listen to what the person is constantly talking about. If they’ve been mentioning that they want an item, specifically try to get it for them.
- Don’t put too much pressure on yourself
I am guilty of putting pressure on myself to try to find the perfect gift. Sometimes the best thing to do is just relax and shop for what you think the person will enjoy and use. If it’s not their favorite gift they’ve ever received, that’s okay too, there’s always next time. Buying or making gifts for others shouldn’t be stressful, so try to avoid that stress.
If all else fails, buy the person a gift card to their favorite restaurant or give them a Visa to spend wherever they want. Enjoy this holiday season and spread the love to others in whatever way you see fit.
