With the spooky month behind us, we can begin looking ahead to the Christmas and (unfortunately) finals. However, what we can’t forget is none other than Thanksgiving! Beyond giving you time to spend with loved ones– Thanksgiving also gives the chance to reflect on what you are thankful for.
Though we may have different cultural backgrounds, living situations and histories, as a student body, we always have something to be grateful for– no matter how big or small that thing may be. Us Eagles have a lot to be thankful for, and now that November is here, we can take the time to reflect on such aspects of our lives.
For one, we can be thankful that our campus survived Hurricane Milton. Milton, while not as disruptive to everyday life as Ian, still managed to destroy some parts of Florida.
Luckily, our beloved college grounds weren’t torn up too much, and mere weeks after the hurricane, most students appeared to be doing well. Many of us are not just lucky but also privileged to be carrying on strong after hurricane season. There are still many Floridians reeling from Hurricanes of seasons past such as Ian and Irma in addition to Milton.
We students should demonstrate how grateful we are by helping hurricane victims. We can help them return to normalcy by volunteering to help supply adequate food, housing and water for families impacted by the hurricane. Actions speak louder than words, and to show our gratitude and luck, giving back to our communities is a wonderful, proactive way of doing so.
Another thing we students can be thankful for is, well, our campus! Think about it, we have four different and high-quality apartment complexes, a fast and easy transportation system, air-conditioned buildings, enthralling activities, events to attend and instructors who work hard to give us the experience we need to pursue future dreams.
It doesn’t take an economist to tell someone that college is expensive, but to put our situation in retrospect, whether you are a commuter or on-campus student, you are incredibly lucky especially if you consider the living situations of young adults all over the world. So, we should be thankful to receive a college education.
Regardless of whether it’s an instructor, part-time job, or some other aspect of college you love. We Eagles should take the time to acknowledge the incredible community and campus we all reside at.
And with all said and done, we here at Eagle Media are all thankful for community members like you who support our work! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and go Eagles!
