Offspring of Beloved Fort Myers Eagles Die of Bird Blu
The American Bald Eagles M15 and F23 are watched by many through the Southwest Florida Eagle cam. Viewers were delighted when the pair hatched two chicks. However, last Tuesday night, tragedy struck when both chicks began experiencing seizures and soon fell out of the nest. It was later found that both chicks died from the H5N1 strain of bird flu, according to Fox 4.
The H5N1 has reportedly been relatively contagious for humans, with a person dying from the strain in Louisiana.
It is predicted that the eaglets contracted the flu when their father brought back an infected bird carcass and fed it to the eaglets.
While the live camera has been operating for 13 years, it has never witnessed a case such as this.
M15 and F23 will continue to be monitored for signs of illness and intervention will be taken if required.

TRUMP Act Causes Controversy throughout the Florida Government
As President Trump began mass detainment of undocumented immigrants, Florida lawmakers passed the TRUMP Act, standing for ‘Tackling and Reforming Unlawful Immigration Policy.’
This act eliminates in-state tuition for undocumented immigrants at public colleges and universities, as well as placing other restrictions on immigrants. It appoints Florida Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson as Florida’s chief immigration officer. It also gives $500 million to local agencies to reimburse them for enforcement according to Fox 13.
Governor Ron DeSantis has criticized the legislature and has threatened to veto it. DeSantis claims that it was weak and supported the farms that use undocumented migrants for labor.
The governor has gone on a statewide tour to denounce the legislature, one of his stops being FGCU last week.

Trump Warns Americans may feel ‘some pain’ from Tariffs
This week, President Trump imposed 25% tariffs on both Mexico and Canada. Sunday, Trump said that Americans could feel ‘some pain’ from the rapidly developing trade war between America and its neighbors to the north and south, according to the AP.
The move to impose tariffs on Canada surprised many, as the country has long been a close ally of America. America gets one-fourth of its oil from Canada.
Trump also reiterated his belief that Canada is not self-sustaining and that it should become the ‘51st State’.
The tariffs go into effect on Tuesday.
