The SigEp Fraternity is hosting its first annual 5k Fun Run on November 2. All profits will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of America, an organization with a mission to inspire and enable all young people to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. “The run is an opportunity to show the underprivileged kids of the Boys & Girls Club that FGCU is in their backyard, and that attending it or a university overall one day is not as impossible as it may seem,” stated Carlos Garcia, FGCU senior and SigEp’s Vice President of Programming. Runners are encouraged to wear the provided Fun Run shirt or a creative costume. Participants will receive a water gun to use as they are simultaneously soaked at checkpoints along the route. SigEp will also be hosting a post-run carnival on the Library Lawn. Food will be provided at the carnival, and registered runners will have the chance to win gift cards, car washes, or a diamond necklace. Tickets are $15 before October 26, at which point online registration closes. Sign-ups on race day will be available in the student plaza from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for $20. Groups of 10 or more are eligible for a discounted price. The run will last from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., starting at the bus loop. The carnival is from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Parking can be found before 12 p.m. in Parking Garage 3, and Parking Garage 2 thereafter.
