Women’s cross country continues to make history

The FGCU women’s cross country team had a program-best finish, finishing third at the Atlantic Sun Conference Cross Country Championships.
After the Halloween weekend race, the team maintained its highest ranking in program history.
The Eagles claimed the South region’s No. 12 spot in the latest USTFCCCA poll released Nov. 2.
Three other A-Sun teams also appear in the women’s regional rankings, including Lipscomb (No. 3), UNF (No. 11) and Jacksonville (No. 14).
“I think having four teams in the South rankings just shows how strong our conference is in women’s cross country,” FGCU head coach Cassandra Goodson said in a press release. “Our women and coaching staff have worked incredibly hard this season, and it’s always nice to be recognized as one of the strongest teams in the region. I’m very proud of this group.”
All eight members of the team finished among the top-30 and pushed its season total of top 30 finishes to 35.
FGCU senior Lauren Tarovisky led the Eagles for the fourth time this fall in A-Sun competition. She crossed the finish line eighth overall in a personal-best time of 17:48.14 in the A-Sun Championship.
Tarovisky’s time was not only a FGCU season-best by more than 30 seconds but also registered as the third-best 5K time in program history. Her eighth-place finish is the second-best conference championship finish for an Eagle, ever.
Conference officials named Tarovisky a member of the A-Sun All-Conference Second Team following the championship race.
Senior Courtney Corradetti finished second among FGCU runners, and 18th overall. She too ran a personal-best 5K, cracking the FGCU record book as the 10th-best time in program history at 18:21.82.
The Eagles have yet to finish outside of the top three during their 2015 season.
The team accumulated a program-record 82 points.  Lipscomb, with 19 points, became the second team in A-Sun history to win a fifth-consecutive A-Sun Cross Country Championship.
The team will compete in the NCAA South Regional Championship on Nov. 13 in Alabama.
