UPD Beat: Police Receive Complaint About a Student Playing Manhunt

An R.A. at Palmetto Hall in South Village called UPD on Sept. 23 about a heavily intoxicated adult male who was vomiting blood. The man was transported to Lee Health Coconut Point. 

On Sept. 24, UPD responded to a call from Eagle Hall in South Village about an intoxicated student throwing up, and experiencing paranoia and anxiety. Medical assistance was requested. The student was transported to Lee Health Coconut Point. 

A student requested a welfare check on their roommate on Sept. 27 they did not return to their dorm two hours after class. The roommate returned home before police units could respond. The roommate was at a club meeting. 

On Sept. 28, it was reported that a white male walking about Parking Garage 2 and looking into people’s windows. Police were unable to locate anyone matching the description of the man.

UPD responded to a call from a complaint that witnessed someone hit an individual on a bike on Sept. 28.  She didn’t know if there were injuries. Police arrived at the scene on FGCU Blvd North with medical assistance for the victim. The victim was transported to Gulf Coast Medical Center. The vehicle that hit the victim was towed. The bike is being stored in Parking Garage 2. 

A complaint was made to UPD on Sept. 28 about an individual wearing camouflage and a gas mask walking from Merwin Hall to the library. Police responded to the incident and found that the subject was playing a game of Manhunt. The police informed the players about university rules. The players finished their game and left the area. 

On Sept. 29, a complaint was made to UPD about individuals tabling for pro-choice on campus. The unit advised the caller that it was their First Amendment right to talk about the subject. UPD advised the caller that she could go to campus reservations if she had any other concerns. 

UPD responded to a welfare check on a subject who is a research assistant on Sept. 30. Unit 30 requested a search for her vehicle since it was last seen on FGCU Lake Parkway West. The complaint advised that the subject was shown to be located by a power plant via the Find My tracking service. Multiple units searched the campus, locations included the Food Forest, North Lake Village and South Village. During this time, the subject’s vehicle was not found. The complaint called UPD back and stated that the subject sent him a text message saying, “I am working in the lab, I can’t talk right now.” 

The doors to the dining area in Howard Hall were left open on Oct. 2. The merchandise in the building was left out. The officer noted that while locking up the Howard Hall elevator, he noticed the side door to The Marketplace and Boars Head Deli was open. The officer went into the building and noticed all the doors were unlocked and was unsure if any merchandise was taken. An emergency key was used to secure the doors. 

On Oct. 3, UPD received information from a resident who lives at Everglades Hall in South Village about a possible firearm being on campus. The student who possibly had the firearm was reported to live at Palmetto Hall in South Village. Police obtained consent to search the dorm. Nothing was found except for three squirt guns. 

A complaint was made to UPD on Oct. 5 about a white male subject in a 2023 Black Honda Civic soliciting passersby for sex in Lot 7. Police responded to the call by searching the area and were unable to locate a vehicle matching the description. UPD located a 2019 Honda in Parking Garage 2. An informational report was completed on the incident.
