In an interview hosted by ENTV News Director Julie Perez, LUVXR shared the inspiration behind his music and explained how his genre has changed over time.
Read the full interview below:
Julie Perez (JP): “How does it feel to be back on the lineup for Eagle Radio Music Fest?”
LUVXR (LUV): “It feels amazing. I’m honestly really excited to do it again.”
JP: “So, since you’ve last been here, your music style has changed. Can you take us through some of those changes? What went into that transformation?”
LUV: “I found my style, I like to say. It really varies what I like to do. As some may know, I really am known for my trademark rage style, but I’ve built in more some singing. I definitely build more into some R&B and Jazz Pop, so that’s honestly what I want to showcase today.”
JP: “You mentioned before that your dad was a musician and that you grew up around music. Do you think that that has influenced the style of your music? Is he your inspiration?”
LUV: “My dad is definitely my inspiration, for sure. Not my only one, but, obviously, built into me. But my inspirations have definitely varied over time. I still like the same artists, but I’ve listened to a lot of New Jazz recently. So my style has been kind of jumping around in there. But for sure, my dad’s always my biggest inspiration.”
JP: “What kind of style of music did he create? How does that differ from yours?”
LUV: “Well, he’s a Spanish guy, and I don’t really speak Spanish. So, unfortunately, that’s the big difference there. But he did both- he did reggae and stuff like that. That was probably really butchered. Hope he’s not watching this, but I do more alternative and pop.”
JP: “Take us through the creative process of creating one of your songs like we want to hear. What goes into the songwriting and what goes into choosing the sound?”
LUV: “Honestly, it really depends on my mood. It really depends on my mood that day. If I’m in a really, really good mood, I’m probably looking towards making a hype song. If I’m more in my feelings, I look for more slow beats, definitely getting more melodic, get emotional. That’s really how I choose between my music. When it comes to recording a song, honestly, I usually freestyle everything. I just kind of feel like that. That’s a more natural form of it for me. Writing is not impossible for me, but it makes me feel more stagnant in my thinking. So, I definitely like to just go out there, hop on the mic, and just kind of take off from there.”
JP: “Is there a specific song that you feel like you put a lot of you poured your emotions into, and it really affected your life?”
LUV: “My first song, “Rock Star Girl,” was after a breakup and I decided to dive into it. That was my first ever song, my first ever time making music, and it was really therapeutic for me. That’s kind of how I fell in love with it. I showcased that here, at FGCU, my first year, and actually got really good feedback. And that’s really kind of how I knew that music was for me.”
JP: “You headlined last year for Juicy J and that’s a huge deal. How did it feel to share this stage with such a household name like that?”
LUV: “It was insane. I really can’t explain the feeling. It’s extremely electric to be standing on the stage and seeing people supporting you. And it was my first time, my first year, really doing it. Seeing how people love my music and sing my songs, was a really euphoric feeling. I loved it honestly.”
JP: “I want to ask about what’s next for you. Do you have anything in the works?”
LUV: “Oh, yeah, wow, ok, I guess I’ll give you some secrets. So, the songs I’ll be doing today are part of an EP that I’m looking to drop next month, February. I can’t give out a date just yet because that’s too many secrets. But other than that, I got some music videos on the way, like my Late Night Fantasies music video. I’m really excited about that because it’s completely different from anything I’ve ever done before. I’m gonna keep getting different. So, just keep definitely watching the journey, for sure.”
JP: “You said it was being released in February; the EP will be, do we have any romantic undertones for the Valentine season?”
LUV: “Yeah, for sure. Oh sure, gosh.”
