After the dust settled on FGCU baseball’s 2026 campaign, eight players received postseason awards.
Evan Dempsey | Outfielder/Pitcher | Junior
For the second consecutive year, Dempsey has been named an All-American First Team consensus pick. This comes after four of the nation’s leading baseball outlets – the ABCA, Baseball America, the NCBWA and Perfect Game – listed him as an honoree.
Dempsey also earned his second John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year award in as many seasons. The feat makes him only the second player to win the award more than once, joining Louisville’s Brendan McKay, who won the award three straight times from 2015-17.
In regard to conference awards, Dempsey was named the Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) Pitcher of the Year and earned first-team all-conference honors as a pitcher and an outfielder.
Dempsey appeared in all 57 of his team’s games, recording a .333 batting average, 79 hits, including 10 home runs and 46 RBIs. He led the Eagles with 15 stolen bases on 17 attempts. In 15 of his starts on the mound, he posted a 7-2 record with a 3.15 ERA, a conference-leading 126 strikeouts and held opposing batters to a .209 average.
Jon Embury | Catcher | Sophomore
Embury was named the ASUN Player of the Year after leading the conference in hits per game, total bases, RBIs, RBIs per game, home runs, home runs per game and slugging percentage.
He also received All-ASUN First Team honors, was named a finalist for the Buster Posey Award, which is the award for the best catcher in college baseball, and was recognized by the ABCA/Rawlings for a spot on the All-Southeast Region second team.
With Embury and Dempsey receiving two of the ASUN’s highest honors, it’s the second time FGCU has had two players claim Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year honors in the same year. This last happened in 2008.
Javier Gorostola | Third baseman | Redshirt Sophomore
Gorostola was the final Eagle to earn All-ASUN First Team honors. In 2026, Gorostola recorded 219 plate appearances with 76 hits, 42 runs, 56 RBIs, 13 home runs and 13 doubles. His .370 batting average ranks him 70th nationally.
Like Embury, Gorostola was also recognized by the ABCA/Rawlings for All-Southeast Region second team honors.
He also recorded a 45-game hit streak that began last season and concluded in FGCU’s matchup against Miami on March 31. His streak is a new FGCU program record and the sixth-longest hit streak in Division I history.
Chris Diaz | Pitcher | Junior
Diaz earned All-ASUN Second Team honors, finishing the regular season as part of FGCU’s weekend rotation.
He made 15 starts, recording a 3.98 ERA and holding opposing batters to a 0.216 average. He pitched the only nine-inning complete game in the ASUN this year against Queens on April 18 where he gave up three hits and struck out seven.
Jaret Nelson | First baseman | Senior
Nelson earned All-ASUN Second Team honors. He led all ASUN first basemen in batting average, hits and was one of four Eagles to hit 10-or-more home runs this season.
He recorded four hits and seven RBI in the second game of the season against North Dakota State on Feb. 14.
Hunter Possehl | Pitcher | Redshirt sophomore
Possehl, the third pitcher part of FGCU’s weekend rotation, earned All-ASUN Second Team honors. His 2.35 ERA in conference games is the best in the ASUN while his overall 3.41 ERA ranked sixth in the conference.
In 15 starts for the Eagles, he pitched 67.1 innings, recorded 65 strikeouts and held batters to a .242 average.
Ashton Pocol | Pitcher | Senior
Pocol was named to the All-ASUN Third Team. He recorded six saves this season, all in conference play.
He pitched 33.1 innings, recorded 50 strikeouts and held batters to a 0.198 average.
Jeremy Comer | Outfielder | Redshirt sophomore
Comer was named to the ASUN All-Tournament Team after recording a 0.400 batting average for six hits on 15 at-bats in the conference tournament. On defense, he recorded eight putouts.
He hit two home runs in a 6-3 second-round win over Central Arkansas on May 21. Comer’s accolade marks the fourth consecutive year an Eagle earns ASUN All-Tournament Team honors.
