Bell and Morehouse Combine for 57 as FGCU Downs Lipscomb
By Jake Henning
Kierstan Bell and Tishara Morehouse led the FGCU women’s basketball team to a huge 104-49 win over Lipscomb, the first conference game for the Eagles at home.
Bell dropped 29 points on 10-15 from the field and 6-9 from three, while adding a team-leading 12 rebounds. She continues to show her dominance as the Eagles get their third straight win in ASUN Conference play.
Morehouse also helped with FGCU’s scoring efforts, as she poured in 28 points of her own, her second highest scoring outing of the year (35, 11/28/20). Along with a great scoring night, she dished out six assists to add to an amazing performance.
She made a couple of flashy plays, one that included a cut to the hoop for the basket and the foul. Morehouse has done an incredible job filling in the scoring void that was left by last year’s FGCU squad.
Defense became a huge staple of the game for the Eagles as multiple players had incredible plays to stop the offense of the Lady Bisons. Emma List was one of those players who stood out on the FGCU defense. List was tasked with guarding one of Lipscomb’s taller players and stood her ground under the basket, causing multiple turnovers that created offense on the other end.
As the game started to pull away from Lipscomb, FGCU head coach Karl Smesko gave some of his players a chance to get playing time and Seneca Hackley really took advantage of that. She didn’t pop out on the box score, but she was felt with her suffocating defense and her work on the boards.
An all-around big effort for the Eagles, as 10 players put points on the board for Coach Smesko and the FGCU squad.
FGCU looks to continue their dominance in tomorrow’s rematch with Lipscomb, while the game tips off at 2 p.m.
