Police beat (02/28/2016-03/06/2016)

02/28/2016, 2:14 p.m.
A complainant called UPD and stated there were two vehicles racing in Parking Lot 7 and that one of them almost hit him. A UPD officer who was in Garage 2 at the moment said he didn’t hear or see anyone racing in the lot.
 
02/29/2016, 2:54 a.m.
A complainant called UPD from Osprey Hall in South Village and said her side was hurting, but she didn’t want an ambulance. UPD contacted the resident director on call, who told the complainant to look if she had an “ask a nurse” phone number on the back of her insurance card. The complainant checked, and she didn’t have any. UPD then told the complainant that if an ambulance came to check her out but didn’t take her anywhere, she wouldn’t be charged. She said she’d rather just wait and have her roommate take her to the ER if her pain worsened. Then, at 3:00 a.m., she called back and said she had spoke to her mom who recommended she call an ambulance. UPD contacted Lee Control.
 
02/29/2016, 1:52 p.m.
Someone called UPD from the FGCU Library to report there was a female passing out in the bathroom. The individual was probably choking or having a panic attack. EMS was contacted, and the individual was transported to Pine Ridge Hospital.
 
02/29/2016, 4:15 p.m.
A resident assistant was walking by the smoker station behind Eagle Hall in South Village and smelled marijuana. The RA then called UPD to report the incident. A UPD officer arrived at the scene and found three subjects, one of which smelled of marijuana. All of the subjects agreed to be patted down and since the officer didn’t find anything, they were released from the scene.
 
02/29/2016, 10:02 p.m.
A UPD officer noticed a subject with a small dog on FGCU Boulevard. The officer spoke to the subject and found out it was a service animal registered with Adaptive Services.
 
02/29/2016, 10:56 p.m.
A resident director called UPD to pick up a baggie of marijuana from Everglades Hall in South Village that one of the resident assistants found in the computer lab.
 
03/01/2016, 6:23 p.m.
A UPD officer removed a raccoon from the trashcan behind Howard Hall.
 
03/01/2016, 9:29 a.m.
An FGCU staff member called UPD to report a drone hovering over a trailer in Parking Lot 7. A UPD officer canvassed the area and South Village but couldn’t find the person flying the drone or the drone.
 
03/01/2016, 11:54 a.m.
A complainant called UPD to file a police report regarding a theft. The complainant stated three months worth of birth control, a Columbia sweatshirt, a Ti-84+ calculator, approximately $20 in cash and two gift cards valued at $15 were stolen from her dorm in North Lake Village.
 
 
03/01/2016, 12:16 p.m.
A shuttle driver called UPD and stated he or she was having trouble driving in front of Building L in North Lake Village because some vehicle had double-parked. A UPD officer contacted the owner of the car, who moved the vehicle.
 
03/01/2016, 5:24 p.m.
A complainant called UPD and stated there was a fight in Recreation Field 1 over some intramural conflict. A UPD officer arrived at the scene and asked the main subject to leave after writing him or her down. Before leaving, the subject said the fight was over the use of the field.
 
03/02/2016, 3:13 a.m.
A UPD officer saw a subject sitting inside his vehicle in North Lake Village and stopped to check on him. As the subject got out of the vehicle the officer smelled marijuana. The officer then searched the vehicle and found a small pipe, a bong, rolling paper and a jar of green leafy substance in a jar. The officer placed the items into evidence and forwarded the case to the Office of the Dean of Students.
 
03/02/2016, 10:25 a.m.
UPD booted a grey Ford on the third floor of Parking Garage 3. They then removed the boot after the owner paid the fines he or she owed to Parking Services.
 
03/02/2016, 11:10 p.m.
An alarm from the Eagle Guardian app came through. UPD contacted the subject and found out she had started the timer to walk back home to Biscayne Hall in South Village but forgot to turn it off; she was OK.
 
03/03/2016, 4:26 p.m.
A complainant called and requested help because her car key was stuck in the ignition of her car. The car was a silver Pontiac in the second floor of Garage 1. A UPD officer got to the scene but was unable to assist, so the complainant said he or she would contact roadside assistance.
 
03/04/2016, 1:14 a.m.
A UPD officer found a subject outside of Building F in North Lake Village who was being loud and appeared to have been drinking. The officer told the subject to quiet down and go back to his or her room.
 
03/06/2016, 3:04 a.m.
A UPD officer heard an argument coming from Parking Lot A in South Village. As the officer approached the bike area he saw a man and a woman walking away from a group of five to six people. The officer followed the two subjects, and the guy started to run. He then appeared to throw something out. The officer caught up with him but couldn’t find any contraband in the area. The subject then said he had run because he had been drinking and he didn’t want to get in trouble. The subject also said the group was arguing about Uber. The officer didn’t take any further action.
 
03/06/2016, 3:54 p.m.
A complainant called UPD and reported there a dog without a leash behind Whitaker Hall. The complainant also said there was a possibility the owner was distracted on his cell phone; however, she was fearful the dog might attack. A UPD officer arrived and found out the owner was waiting for her daughter who was in the Art Lab. The officer asked the owner to wait in the truck.
