Mike and Karen Hartley, members of the Eagles Scholarship Society, the highest annual giving designation to FGCU Athletics, have donated $1 million toward the expansion and enhancement of Alico Arena.
The Hartley Academic Resource Center, which will be located on the first floor of Alico near the front of the arena, will include workspaces for group projects, offices for the Student-Athlete Learning Center’s staff, computers, seven private tutoring areas and living, study and conference rooms.
Upgrades to Alico began last year with the inclusion of four-sided LED video boards and courtside tables. The Hartleys’ donation assisted Athletics in passing their Phase I goal of $8 million in enhancements to Alico, which will include a new expanded sports medicine area, new men’s and women’s basketball suites and reconfiguration of 3^rd floor office spaces. These renovations will be complete in August 2017.
