After finishing third place in the regular season, five Eagles from the FGCU volleyball team earned ASUN All-Conference honors. With nine total awards, FGCU ties with first seed Lipscomb for most in the conference.
Along with her unanimous First-Team All-Conference honors, sophomore Maggie Rick was named the ASUN Setter of the Year. Joining Rick on the conference’s first team were Amanda Carroll and Leigh Pudwill.
All three of the First-Team selections were standouts both on the court and in the classroom. This season, they were also named to the ASUN’s All-Academic Team for their academic success.
Two freshmen rookies also earned postseason recognition. Daniele Serrano and Giovanna Borgiotti earned ASUN All-Freshman honors.
Rick earned the title of Setter of the Year after leading the ASUN with 1,136 assists while averaging a conference-high 10.72 assists per set. She also supported the offense to an ASUN-best hitting percentage of .278.
Rick tallied four matches with 50-plus kills this year with a season-high of 64 against USC Upstate on Nov. 11.
Carroll finished the season first in the conference and 14th in the nation with an astounding 5.1 points per set. The sophomore outside hitter ranked top five in the ASUN in total kills (425), kills per set (4.38), hitting percentage (.294) and service aces per set (0.38).
She led the team with five double-doubles and 22 double-digit kill performances, including a 30-kill match against USC Upstate on Nov. 11.
Pudwill proved to be one of the most well-rounded players this season. With over 300 kills and nearly 200 digs on the year, Pudwill showed she could assist greatly both offensively and defensively.
The outside hitter finished her senior season with five double-doubles and ranked top-three on the team in kills (303), digs (194), points (3.34), and blocks (68.0).
Freshman middle blocker, Serrano, also proved her strengths by ranking fourth in the ASUN with 0.87 blocks per set. Her 90 blocks this year led the team, along with her hitting percentage of .385.
Her 10 blocks against USC Upstate on Nov. 11 ranked the most in a single match by an ASUN freshman this season.
With the absence of Carroll a portion of the season, Borgiotti earned a starting position in the Eagles lineup near the end of September. The rookie outside hitter finished the season third on the team with 174 kills, along with 118 digs and three doubles-doubles.
