Frightmare on 78th replaces Haunted Hike

By Katie Loudermilk
Staff Writer
Gator Mike’s Haunted Hike has been giving Southwest Florida a good scare for the last 27 years.
This year, with new owners, Gator Mike’s Family Fun Park (formerly Greenwell’s) the park is making some changes to this spooky season tradition. Gator Mike’s is replacing the Haunted Hike with Frightmare on 78, named after State Road 78.
The Frightmare on 78 trail will be held in the back of Gator Mike’s at a decommissioned go-cart track, and will last about twice as long as the Haunted Hike did. The trail’s run time is 18 minutes and includes a brand-new trailer.
A few of the themes of the hike this year mirror pop culture, such as Netflix show “Stranger Things” and the Area 51 raid.  In addition, attendees will wander through a maze with zombies, chainsaw wielding monsters, a morgue and a hall of clowns.
“The people working at the trail were on point with their costumes,” attendee Kaylee Duprez said. “I liked that we did not have to wait in line too long, even though there were a lot people.”
Gator Mike’s will host Frightmare on 78 starting at 7 P.M. on October 25th26th, 30th, 31st and November 1st to the 2ndTickets are $15 per person and Fast Passes are available for $20 each.
The event is family-friendly, but the Frightmare Hike is meant to scare. Note the “Parental Advisory” on the flyer.
Batting cages, mini golf and arcade games will be open.
Location: 35 NE Pine Island Rd Cape Coral, FL 33909
