FGCU women’s basketball rolled Saint Louis 97-64 in its Friday afternoon matchup with help from Keri Jewett-Giles, who racked up 21 points in the win and reached 1,000 points in her NCAA career.
Jewett-Giles finished 9-for-12 from the field while shooting 3-for-5 from the 3-point range. Her final shot to reach 1,000 points came from a deep 3-pointer on the left-wing.
“It shows that she’s had a very successful college career,” Smesko said of Jewett-Giles reaching 1,000 points. “She’s somebody that the local community can be very proud of. She’s a great player. For point guards to score 1,000 points, that’s pretty impressive.”
Jewett-Giles wasn’t the only one to have an impressive night, as both Davion Wingate (19 points) and Ashli O’Neal (20 points) were in double figures for the Green and Blue.
In her best game of the year, O’Neal shot 7-for-12, with five of those being threes. Wingate also had her sixth straight game with 10 points or more for the Eagles. She is just 4 points away from joining Jewett-Giles in the 1,000 points club.
Nasrin Ulel and Tytionia Adderly each had nine points, while Adderly pulled in a season-high 15 rebounds. She has double-digit boards in three of six games this year, also bumping her career total to 905 and inching her closer to 16th-most in ASUN history.
The FGCU women’s basketball team will head to Cancun to take on Notre Dame, USF, and South Dakota State, all who have been nationally ranked, in a three-game set starting on Nov. 28-30 in the Cancun Challenge.
