With the input and design of a new university logo, University Marketing and Communications have been making changes and rebranding on campus.
On Monday, Sept. 25 at 9:30 a.m., President Timur, Vice President of Student Success & Enrollment Management Mitch Cordova, SG President Emory Cavin and Azul the eagle unveiled the new letters on the Library Lawn. These letters are presented as a photo opportunity.
One of the staff members present was Associative Vice President for Marketing and Communications Alice Wheelwright who helped lead the rebranding of the signs at the main entrance to campus.
“The Cabinet, which Aysegul is now the leader of as the President, very much wanted to have a symbol here on campus that was easy and safe for students, both incoming and prospective, for our current students, graduates, as well as alumni to come back and celebrate FGCU,” Wheelwright said.
Students were welcome to attend the unveiling. Many students and alumni commented on a video FGCU posted revealing the letters saying it was a “waste of money” and “it should’ve been a new parking garage.”
This sign was funded by University Marketing and Communications. Not all students are against the new logo or this new photo opportunity.
“I think they changed it because we’re getting into a very simplistic, minimalistic era,” Nathalie Rodriguez Gastell said about the new logo.
The project was impending since the creation of the new logo in December of last year, it now stands as a photo background for years to come and makes it easy for eagles to show their FGCU pride everyday.

I wasn’t sure about the new logo when it first changed but it’s growing on me, especially after they unveiled the new sign. I thought it looked really nice :).
