UPD responded to a call about a bear walking between SoVi Dining and Everglades Hall at South Village on Aug. 7. Police responded and spoke with the resident director, who had told housing staff to stay indoors. Units later observed the bear entering the woods behind SoVi Dining.
A noise complaint was filed on Aug. 14 near The Boardwalk at North Lake Village. A student called stating that The Boardwalk speaker was playing music loudly. When police arrived, no one was in the building. The speaker panel was left on and the exterior doors were unsecured. After turning the speaker off, the unit was unable to secure the doors and left.
On Aug. 16, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office contacted UPD about a subject who had ingested too many marijuana gummies and had become aggressive with the complainant. A San Carlos Fire truck was dispatched to Osprey Hall in South Village. When units responded, the subject was vomiting on the bathroom floor and did not know where she was. The subject was then transported to a nearby hospital.
A welfare check was completed in West Lake Village on Aug. 18. The complainant advised that one male voice was yelling and possibly slamming things around. Units contacted the person, where the subject expressed how he was upset about the move-in process. UPD advised Housing to follow up on the subject.
On Aug. 19, A call was received from the Fort Myers Police Department about an open line hang up. FMPD stated that male voices were speaking, but it sounded like a pocket dial. UPD attempted to make phone contact but was unable to, and left a voicemail. Units canvassed both rec fields but were unable to locate anyone in distress.
An officer was requested on standby for a room search in West Lake Village on Aug. 20. The unit advised that the subject was smoking medical marijuana in the breezeway of the apartment. When housing searched, nothing was turned up and the subject was told that it is illegal to smoke publicly on FGCU property.
