Volunteers needed for spring expo

Florida Gulf Coast University is expecting 3,000 visitors next Saturday, Feb. 21. It’s time for the FGCU Open House, also known as Eagle EXPO. Eagle EXPO will allow prospective students and their families to come to campus to learn about the services and programs that are available to students at FGCU.
Tamara Tassler, associate director of admissions marketing and communications, is excited to hold her 28th Eagle EXPO. “Our campus is so beautiful. I want people to come see what we get to see every day,” Tassler said. “I want our visitors to find out about FGCU and see if it is a good fit for them.
“Visitors get to meet with faculty and staff in the colleges to talk and learn about specific majors and programs,” Tassler said. “It also allows them to see and experience the Eagle spirit across campus by talking with current students and staff.”
Tassler said many different departments and offices will have a table in the Student Plaza to display their services for students. Many registered student organizations will have tables on the library lawn to show prospective students what their groups do and to promote membership. Each of the colleges will have presentations on specific majors and their general list of programs. Academic areas such as laboratories will also be open for touring.
“Basically the entire campus is open for our visitors to explore,” Tassler said.
Eagle EXPO is held campus-wide. However, the main events will take place in the Student Plaza, the Library Lawn and the Academic Core. Walking and driving tours of campus will be available.
Dormitories in all three of the campus housing locations will be available for preview as well.
“The university really comes together to support the open house events,” Tassler said. “I am always so pleased with the support we receive from across campus for this event. The leadership of the university, from Dr. Bradshaw to the deans and vice presidents, are all very supportive of the event and often come to show their support the day of the event.”
Students who are interested in volunteering for Eagle EXPO can contact Tassler at [email protected]. “We can always use volunteers,” Tassler said. Volunteers must be available from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will be able to earn service-learning hours.
“Volunteering at Eagle EXPO allows our current students to share their experiences at FGCU and promote FGCU,” Tassler said. “Visitors love talking with current students and asking them why they chose FGCU.”
