History, suspense, and… coloring? — the top 10 books of 2015

This past year was a big one for entertaining literature, if Amazon’s list of 2015’s Top-Selling New Releases is any indication. Topped by a talked-about thriller and peppered with creepy mysteries, whodunits and period pieces, the list boasts that it has “something for everybody.”
22557272Topping the list is Paula Hawkins’ “The Girl on the Train,” a book that took the market by storm this year — so much that it’s now slated for a film adaption. Told from the perspectives of three different women, “The Girl on the Train” is a thriller that has taken more than 3 million U.S. readers on a fast-paced ride. This isn’t the first time that this book topped a list, either; it held the top position on the New York Times Fiction Best Sellers list for 13 consecutive weeks, and the U.K. hardback book charts for 20 — the longest that any book has ever held that spot.

The list is full of page-turning hits, containing a ton of suspense, history — such as “The Nightingale” by Kristin Hannah, a WWII novel coming in fourth — and, most surprising of all: adult coloring books.
The fun, stress-relieving books have been a huge trend this year, and two of the most popular make the bestseller list in 2015.
61XE3k-wxnL._SX258_BO1,204,203,200_“Enchanted Forest: An Inky Quest and Coloring Book” by Johanna Basford rolls in at No. 13, and “Adult Coloring Book: Stress Relieving Patterns” by Blue Star Coloring steals the 15th spot.
Amazon breaks it down like this:
2015’s Top-Selling Book Overall: “The Girl on the Train” by Paula Hawkins
2015’s Top-Selling Kids & Teens Book: “Old School: Diary of a Wimpy Kid Book 10” by Jeff Kinney
2015’s Most Wished for Book: “The Girl on the Train” by Paula Hawkins
2015’s Most Gifted Book: “Go Set a Watchman” by Harper Lee
