‘Tis the Season: What I love about Christmas!

There are so many things I love about this time of year. From the gifts to the quality time spent with friends and family, Christmas is my favorite time of year. Don’t get me wrong, I love Thanksgiving. I love gathering around the table to pray, give thanks, and eat a big, delicious meal, but something about Christmas always gets me.

The moment Thanksgiving ends, the Christmas songs and movies begin. My favorite Christmas movie is the 2007 movie Snow Globe with Cristina Milian. The movie is about a Cuban family who lives in New York, which is where I’m from. There are so many jokes and references that the Hispanic in me enjoys. I also collect snow globes so the magic from this movie brings me joy every time. I also love watching the 2012 movie The Mistle-Tones with Tia Mowry. The Christmas songs are full of life and the humor is non-stop. I have a long list of movies that I watch every year as my own little tradition.

Speaking of traditions, I love decorating the Christmas tree every year with my family when I go home and with my best friends when I’m in Fort Myers. The three of us love decorating our dorm to make it look astounding. There are lights hung up in my room and mini-Christmas trees scattered throughout the house. I always love putting the ornaments on the tree and the stockings on the wall. Another one of my favorite traditions is decorating ornaments with my best friends. Every year since we’ve been at FGCU, we put on some Christmas music, break out the paint and decorate ornaments to put on our tree.

Christmas brings me joy and a sense of  love. It’s a holiday season full of love for one another. I love spending time with my friends and family and exchanging gifts. My number one love language for other people is to give them gifts. I love exchanging presents with my friends and family. I pride myself on good gift-giving and I always enjoy the holiday season, since it’s the perfect excuse to spoil the ones I love. I also have a craft cart in my bedroom, so it makes wrapping a million times easier now. I have bags, wrapping paper, gift tags and so much more. I buy my gifts throughout the year so I don’t have to spend such a large amount at the end of the year. I have a big family, so making sure all the gifts are together and ready brings me happiness.

I also love celebrating God during the Christmas season. I have hosted a family talent show for the past 6 years and this year will be no different. Every year my mom kicks off the talent show by reading a Bible passage, usually talking about the birth of Christ. We try to put God at the center of our holidays, and I think we did a pretty good job.

Overall, Christmas has always been my favorite holiday and there are so many reasons as to why. This holiday season, hug the people you love, open your arms or homes to those you want, and enjoy the moments you have because you never know how long they will last. Take a breath and celebrate this time of year.
