Bringing a heavy start to 2026, Lamb Of God dropped their fast-paced, medieval, yet electric album, “Into Oblivion,” on March 13. Releasing an album in 2022, called “Omens,” the band knew they had to come up with something totally different for their audience, even after only four years. Being their 10th album, lead singer Randy Blythe told Apple Music, “We’ve been around for 30 years… We try to add different layers and not repeat the same old things,” and that is exactly what they did.
Their first song is named after the album. It introduces listeners to the new Lamb Of God sound. The song almost puts you in the shoes of the monster, speaking to the listener in the song. The lyrics, “Blight, devastation, I am a plague mentality,” encapsulate that the truth in today’s world is no longer relieving, but fearful. It is saying that now because truth is conveyed to be disturbing. People now turn a blind eye, turning truth into oblivion.
Following that, their second song, “Parasocial Christ,” is sure to make your eardrums ring with the insane vocals and screams of Blythe. Do not let his vocals steer you away from the lyrical genius these men hold. “Parasocial Christ” is a cry to our society to bring ourselves away from the toxicity of social media, the economy and the pressures of being the working class. Using the strong and meaningful lyrics, “You need to walk away, but your self-worth is tied up in someone else,” conveying that humans only identify themselves by their economic and social status. They label social media as a way to “kill the time” and the people who feed into it are “servants to distraction.” It is a warning to all humankind that they are being mind controlled by those in power, and they are not giving it up.
With only 10 tracks on this album, it feels like a Greek tragedy. Putting you in the shoes of someone taking their last breath, and this is the sound of their death.
