A Taste of Tokyo: Restaurant event raises money for Susan G. Komen

Students who desire good food and a good time while supporting a special charity, listen up.
From 6-10 p.m., Saturday, March 29, the Tokyo Bay Club in Bonita Springs will be hosting A Taste of Tokyo: FGCU Social. Half the proceeds from the event will be donated to breast cancer research through The Susan G. Komen Foundation.
“The purpose is to unite FGCU students for good food, good times, and a great cause. Admission is ten dollars, with half of the proceeds going to Susan G. Komen, and the other half going toward appetizers and coupons that night for students to dine half off, as well as half off drinks,” said Christopher Neptune, director of the event. Neptune also added that there will be coupons for $15.99 all you can eat sushi.
Students who attend A Taste of Tokyo could also potentially walk out of the event having formed some beneficial relationships.
“Even though FGCU is a small school, we are growing and we would like to build better relationships by combining students who would not necessarily meet outside of the classroom. It will change their lives by introducing students to more social networks, which in turn builds more relationships. You never know who you will meet,” Neptune said.
Neptune also pointed out that the owner of the restaurant, Jack Campbell, is an Eagles fan and wanted to support Dunk City.
“He truly believes in the future leaders and wanted to bring them together,” Neptune said.
Also organizing the event is Devin Cline, who as a finance major is using the knowledge gained from his education for the betterment of the group. When fellow event organizer Andrew Green pitched the idea to him, Cline said he could not turn it down.
“It was Andrew’s idea to start this social for Tokyo Bay and Susan G. Komen. He pitched the idea to me and I could not say no to such a great idea. Helping promote a small local business with great growth potential and supporting a wonderful breast cancer charity together at the same time is a win-win in my opinion. Not only can students come to enjoy Tokyo Bay’s great food, they can network and support a charity as well. FGCU is built on volunteering to the local community and I think this social really shines in supporting a local business and a charity,” said Cline, who added that they have also discussed hosting future events at Tokyo Bay, perhaps as soon as this summer.
Perhaps playing the most pivotal role in A Taste of Tokyo is Green, who personally knows the owner of Tokyo Bay.
“This event is something I wanted to do with other students; we are not an organization. I have a personal
relationship with the owner; I have known him for many years,” Green said. “I am a business major, and I want to unite FGCU students outside of school and in our community, as well as support Susan G. Komen, which is an incredible organization, as well as create awareness for Tokyo Bay.”
Green also added that there will be a band from FGCU playing at A Taste of Tokyo. The band, Eons, a two-man alternative band, will be playing covers in addition to their own music at the event.
“A Taste of Tokyo is a win win for everybody,” Green said. “From the students’ perspective, you have a chance to meet new people, contribute to the research and awareness of breast cancer, and have the opportunity to eat delicious Japanese cuisine. This event will change students’ lives in the sense of knowing that they are directly contributing to the research and awareness of breast cancer to Susan G. Komen Foundation. Also a great opportunity for students to network. You could even take a date. There is nothing more satisfying than directly contributing to awareness through Susan G. Komen.”
Students who wish to RSVP can do so through the event’s Facebook page: A Taste of Tokyo: FGCU social. Tickets are $10 if purchased by March 21; tickets purchased after that date or at the door are $15. Students who wish to RSVP and do not have a Facebook account can do so by contacting Neptune at (407) 558-7678.
