Former Dunk City guard Brett Comer drafted into NBA D-League

It was a long summer for the recently graduated, four-year starter from FGCU, Brett Comer. It was an anxiety-filled three months for Comer, as he witnessed the success from his former teammates.  Comer was able to obtain a workout with the Miami Heat; however, he was not selected in the draft. But, opportunity selected him this afternoon.
Former FGCU point guard Brett Comer was drafted as the seventh pick in the third round of the NBA Development League draft by the Grand Rapids Drive.
Comer’s journey has progressed him from a Winter Park High School standout to a Dunk City founding father – and, now, the NBA.
FGCU athletes have been earning opportunity at the professional level, recently.
First, Bernard Thompson signed with the city of Komarno in Slovakia.  This club finished with a record of 29-7 in Slovakia’s top basketball league.
Secondly, senior Julian DeBose competed with the USA collegiate team in the World University Games under Coach Bill Self.  He, along with the rest of the team, ravaged past teams and brought home the gold.
Third, Chase Fieler plays professionally in Spain where he earned a league championship in his first year.
Now, the Grand Rapids Drive program looks to Brett Comer to get their program moving in the right direction. Grand Rapids is the D-League affiliate of the Detroit Pistons.
FGCU is making astonishing progress with its athletes for being such a young university. This past season, Comer averaged 12.5 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists.  He recorded 845 collegiate career assists, which ranks 24th in NCAA history.  On top of that, he listed 1477 career points and 453 rebounds.
Comer is not the only FGCU product in the NBA developmental league.  Former teammate and member of the Cinderella run, Sherwood Brown is also playing in the Development league with the Maine Red Claws.  Despite the fact that they’re both in the NBA development league, Comer is the only FGCU player to be drafted in the NBA.  Sherwood entered the league as a free agent.
Comer will tip off his season against another A-sun draftee, Ty Greene Jr, who plays for a D-League team out of Delaware.
