Dead Body Found in South Village

A man was found dead near Garage B in South Village just before 4 a.m. on Aug. 2. The University Police Department responded to the scene. They do not suspect any foul play.

Pamela McCabe, the Coordinator of University Communications & Media Relations, sent an email to the students and staff on behalf of UPD Chief Jim Slapp.

“The individual was not a current student or employee, and we want you to be aware that at no point was this a threat to the university community,” read the email.

A death investigation of the 20-year-old male is being conducted by UPD and they will be interviewing witnesses and going over security footage.

The email doesn’t state what the cause of death was. It concluded with a reminder to students about services FGCU provides.

“We would like to remind all students and employees that mental health and grief counseling is available, and FGCU urges everyone who is in need of these services to reach out for assistance.”
