Students, faculty and staff members were alerted Feb. 23 of a campus-wide outage of code blue safety poles and emergency call boxes. As of now, half of the devices are operational.

An email was sent out on Feb. 28 addressing the progress that UPD and the campus vendor had made in regards to this outage.

“Safety is a top priority for FGCU, which is why we continue to update students, faculty and staff on the progress of restoring campus Blue Poles and emergency call boxes to full operation,” began the email.

The university is continuing to address the inactive devices, and plan to update students, faculty and staff when updates become available.

“Please note that inoperable devices are clearly marked with a red tag that states ‘temporarily out of order.’ Signs have been removed from the poles and call boxes that are functioning properly,” read the email.

UPD encourages students facing an emergency situation to dial 911, contact UPD directly at (239) 590-1900 or use the Guardian Eagle App. More information on this situation can be found on eaglenews.org.
